Countdown begins to the TPAS 2011 Awards
Monday 15th November, 2010
Tenants and housing providers have less than two weeks before the deadline for the north region in this year’s 2011 TPAS Awards.
Entries for the north section have to be submitted by December 1st and those shortlisted will be announced on December 13, before the first of three regional award ceremonies take place at the Palace Hotel in Manchester on February 11.
The awards will be TPAS’s biggest celebration of outstanding achievements to date and following extensive consultation and feedback, three new titles will be handed out to reflect the work taking place across England.
For the first time TPAS will recognise the best Young Tenant of the Year, the Tenant / Resident Involvement Team of the Year, and the best initiative in Equality and Diversity.
The new categories are in addition to the following established six awards that are also up for grabs:
- Best Practice in the Community
- Best Practice in Supporting People
- Best Practice in Youth Involvement
- Tenant liaison officer of the year (landlord)
- Tenant liaison officer of the year (contractor)
- Tenant of the Year
Following on from the north region award ceremony, the central region event takes place at St John’s Hotel, Birmingham on 1 April, and the Grand Connaught Rooms, London on 6 May.
Winners from each region will then go into the national final which will be held during TPAS’s annual national conference.
TPAS Chief Executive, Michelle Reid, said: “Time is ticking for tenants and providers to submit their entries for the north section of our awards and we would urge everyone involved in social housing to look at the work that goes on in their communities and recognise those who do exceptional things.
"Over the years we have seen just how high the standard of nominations is so we know there are lots of people across the country doing great things and we are really keen to hear about them so we can share this knowledge and inspiration, and of course, recognise it with our awards."
Last year, Liverpool Mutual Homes triumphed at the national awards following success in the north region with its Intensive Community Payback work that reduced crime and anti-social behaviour, helped rehabilitate offenders, and made tenants feel more secure.
The judging panel will be led by one of the leading figures in the UK housing industry, the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing, Sarah Webb.
Tenants who go the extra mile, innovative pioneering schemes and team efforts that make communities safer and more desirable places to live is the type of work that TPAS’s Connecting People Awards recognises and celebrates.
Pop star and former X-Factor finalist, Laura White will be performing at the ceremonies which will be compèred by BBC Manchester radio presenter Michael Shaft.
The other deadlines are:
Central section: 28 January 2011; shortlisting announced w/c 14 February
Southern section: 4 March 2011; shortlisting announced w/c 14 March
