Deadline looms for TPAS Central Awards

Tuesday 25th January, 2011

Friday is the closing date for nominations from housing providers and tenants for this year’s Central region of the TPAS Awards.

Entries for the Central region have to be submitted by January 28 with those shortlisted informed during the week commencing February 14.

The Central awards cover Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and the eastern counties.

The regional final will be held on Friday 1 April at St John’s Hotel in Birmingham with winners from the nine categories going into a national final that will be held as part of TPAS’s Conference and AGM on 28th and 29th July 2011 (www.tpasconference.org.uk).

The judging panel will be led by one of the leading figures in the UK housing industry, Sarah Webb, Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing.

The awards are TPAS’s biggest celebration of outstanding achievements to date. Following extensive consultation and feedback, TPAS will for the first time recognise the best Young Tenant of the Year, the Tenant / Resident Involvement Team of the Year, and the best initiative in Equality and Diversity.

The new categories are in addition to the following established six awards that are also up for grabs:

  • Best Practice in the Community
  • Best Practice in Supporting People
  • Best Practice in Youth Involvement
  • Tenant liaison officer of the year (landlord)
  • Tenant liaison officer of the year (contractor)
  • Tenant of the Year

Entries for the North region have already been shortlisted with the regional final taking place at a glittering ceremony in Manchester on February 11 at The Palace Hotel.

The deadline to enter the South region is March 4, and the South awards ceremony will be at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London on May 6.

TPAS Chief Executive, Michelle Reid, said: “The judges tell me the standard of entries received for the North section has been extremely high so we are really looking forward to seeing examples of best practice from tenants and housing providers in the Central section.

“The awards play a vital role in recognizing the people behind the success stories in housing and communities. They recognise the excellent work that is taking place and crucially inspire knowledge and ideas across the rest of the country.”
